Dibakar Bannerjee, the director of the light-hearted complete entertainer Khosla Ka Ghosla is back with his second film titled Oye Lucky Lucky Oye . The film stars Abhay Deol, Neetu Chandra and Paresh Rawal in lead roles and is again backed by the UTV banner. The film has been jointly scripted by Urmi Juvekar (Rules: Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula) and Dibakar.

Dibakar sounds all excited about the film and reveals, “It’s the story of a thief called Lucky played by Abhay Deol. He doesn’t look down on stealing, but on the contrary, is proud of his work. He is a character who steals everything from jewelry, cash to even a photo frame or a teddy bear.

Like you or I have our respective jobs as our career paths, Lucky too considers stealing as his career and wants to get ahead in his profession. He is a master at his work and does stealing like it should be done – in complete secrecy. But the quirky character that he is, he wants to earn fame through his profession. And the quandary of his life is that if he comes in limelight through his profession, he won’t be able to steal anymore”.

Interestingly the film stars Paresh Rawal in a triple role for the first time. “Paresh Rawal plays three characters that are divergently different from each other. The three characters come from different strata of society and have nothing in common. Lucky comes across these three characters who are responsible in a major way in shaping his life”, explains Dibakar.

Neetu Chandra is the female lead of the film. “She is in love with Lucky and is pretty much aware of his profession. She wants Lucky to give up his illegal ways. She dreams of the two owning a restaurant and settling down in life”.

After Traffic Signal, ‘Garam Masala’ girl Neetu Chandra will again be seen in a non-glamourous character in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye . But Dibakar doesn’t understand what the media means by terms like the ‘makeup’ or the ‘non-makeup’ look. “I feel there could be two definitions to being glamourous”, says the director and goes on to explain “One is the ‘typical painted baby-doll’ character who wears a lot of makeup and is designed to look glamorous. The other is someone who can be good-looking by just being themselves. Sania Mirza or Marian Jones aren’t painted with makeup. But they still come across as glamorous personalities in their profession playing their respective games.

Neetu Chandra’s character in my film falls in the latter category where she bears a sporty and spunky look and will surely look beautiful but isn’t all painted up with makeup”.

Is his second film too primarily designed as a comedy like Khosla Ka Ghosla ? Dibakar counterattacks, “If you have seen Khosla Ka Ghosla , you will realize that it isn’t an out-an-out comedy. It was a slice-of-life film with humour being the main element to carry the film forward. Humour has to be used as a tool not the theme of your film. In that sense, I would say Oye Lucky Lucky Oye would fall in the same genre as that of Khosla Ka Ghosla , though I would not term it only as a comedy film”.

The film also stars Archana Puran Singh in a very interesting role, something that she has never played before. “But I can’t tell you much about her character as it will give away the film”, concludes Bannerjee.
